Information
The purpose of this study is to evaluate the effect of trabecular compaction technique on the initial implant stability in poor bone quality situations.
Twenty implants were placed in ten rabbits. Right femoral head was used as control group. In control group, implant site was prepared with conventional drilling technique. Left femoral head was used as experimental group. In experimental group, implant site was prepared with trabecular compaction technique. During implant insertion, insertion torque was measured and just after implantation, periotest value was measured also. Insertion torque values and periotest values were statistically analyzed. Correlation was analyzed between the insertion torque values and the periotest values.
The results were as follows.
1. The insertion torque values of experimental group were significantly higher than those of control group (P<0.01).
2. The periotest values of experimental group were significantly lower than those of control group (P<0.01).
3. It was found that there is an inverse proportion between the insertion torque values and the periotest values.
In conclusion, trabecular compaction technique could increase bone density and also improve the initial implant stability in poor bone quality situations.
