Abstract
"Chronic diffuse sclerosing osteomyelitis (CDSO) of the mandible is an inflammatory disease showing recurrent pain and swelling. It can appear at any age and often lasts for years. Radiographic appearance ranges from scattered areas of rarefaction to complete sclerosis. This disease leads to masticatory functional problem due to the multiple loss of teeth on the affected side. There are very few reports on the osscointegrated dental implants in the sclerosed mandible and also the results are unpredictable. This is to report a case of dental implant prosthesis placed in the mandible body which had been treated for mandibular sclerosing osteomyelitis of 28 year-old female. Reviewing this case, the results were summarized as follows ; 1) Osseointegration between the fixtures and sclerosed bones was achieved by the meticulous drilling in incremental sizes and internal irrigation systems. 2) Healing period for over 6 months is recommended for the implant prosthesis in the sclerosed mandible."
