Abstract
From June 2003 to December 2004, 49 immediate implants were placed in 21 patients following teeth extraction at Section of Dentistry, Seoul National University Bundang Hospital. Male were 11 and female were 10, age was from 19 years to 72 years(average 53 years). The follow-up period after prosthetic function was from 12 months to 30 months(average 21 months) 1. Total survival cases were 47 cases(96%), and failure cases were 2 cases. The two failure cases succeeded after removal and re-installation. 2. The etiologies of tooth extraction were chronic periodontitis(37), root rest(8), periapical lesion(3) and tooth fracture(1). 3. The installation sites were 18 cases on maxillary anterior teeth area, 13 cases on mandibular anterior teeth area and others. 4. The case with bone graft were 42 cases, the case without bone graft were 7 cases. 5. Intraoperative or postoperative complications were prosthodontic problems, nerve injury, contact with adjacent tooth, and postoperative infection. 6. One stage implants were 11 cases, two stage implants were 32 cases and immediate restorations were 6 cases. 7. Marginal bone resorption was average 2.1mm at 6 months after prosthetic function and average 2.8mm at 12 month after prosthetic function. 8. The failure cases were 2 cases. The sites of them were all maxillary anterior teeth area and the failure was finally diagnosed after 4 and 6 months after implant placement. The etiologies of failure were maybe severe bone resorption due to postoperative infection and the failure of osseointegration due to poor initial stability.
