The dimension of the ridge after tooth extraction is reduced both horizontally and vertically. Especially the change in the buccal aspect of the ridge is remarkable. Socket preservation can be useful to reduce the loss of the alveolar ridge after tooth extraction. Two cases are described involving the use of socket preservation before placing implants. The cases showed that socket preservation is effective in maintaining the ridge dimensions of the extraction socket.
