Background : Primary stability of dental implant is a very important factor of dental implant success. However, few data are available for comparing the primary stability characteristics of cortical bone existence, surgical techniques and implant designs.
Purpose : The objectives of this study were to measure the primary implant stability according to the cortical bone existence, surgical techniques and implant designs.
Materials & Method : Bovine bones which have 2㎜ cortical bone were selected as an experimental model. As treated specimens, cortical bone was removed. The assemblies were divided into two test groups of each 30 bovine rib bone specimens according to the existence of cortical bone(NC group: 0㎜, C group: 2㎜). two Bra˚nemark standard type straight screw shaped implants(Neoplant®, Neobiotech CO., Seoul, Korea - 3.75㎜ × 13㎜) and one taper screw shaped implants(Xive® S Plus, Dentsply Friadent GmhH, Germany - 3.8 × 13㎜) were placed into each group. one straight screw shaped implant after counter-sinking and tapping(ST), one straight screw shaped implant after counter-sinking and self-tapping(SST) and one taper screw shaped implant after self-tapping(TST) were placed into each bovine rib bone specimen. Implant primary stability as a function of resonance frequency analysis(RFA), peak insertion torque, and removal torque were recorded for each fixture site after placement and removal.
Results :
1. The RFA values of the TST and the SST were significantly higher than that of the ST, and C group was significantly higher than that of NC group(P<0.05).
2. There was significant differences on the peak insertion torque and peak removal torque values between TST and ST implant in NC group(P<0.05), and TST, SST and ST in C group(P<0.05).
