Abstract
This study was performed to evaluate the prognosis of horizontal guided bony regeneration and implant placement when the buccolingual width of the alveolar ridge is narrow. Total 33 patients were included in this study and the number of male was 23, female 20. The mean age of the patients was 57.1 years. Total 81 implants were placed simultaneously. Postoperative followup period ranged from 28 months to 48 months, with a mean of 38.3 months. There were a variety of complications such as wound dehiscence, paresthesia, infection, osseointegration failure and severe swelling. The mean mesial marginal bone resorption was 2.49 mm and distal 2.45 mm during the follow-up period. Initial osseointegration failure developed in two implants and one implant failed during the prosthodontic function. The survival rate of the implants was 96.3%(78/81). As a result, the horizontal guided bony regeneration and implant placement is acceptable method, however, there is a possibility crestal bone loss is progressed when some complications such as wound dehiscence and local infection develop.
