Information
Since the concept of osseointegration has been introduced, implants are an essential part of the prosthetic treatment in edentulous patients. Moreover, successful long term outcomes of implant treatment in edentulous patients have been brought out in the treatment of partially edentulous patients. However Iimitations or failures of implant treatment create the situation in which it would be necessary to connect implants and natural teeth. According to Branemark protocol, the connection between implants and natural teeth was contraindication due to the mobility difference between natural teeth and implants. The natural tooth is supported in bone by a periodontal ligament. On the other side, the implant has a more intimate or ankylotic connection with the supporting bone, to carry most of the load, and absorb the forces of cyclic stresses. Therefore, broken and lossened implant components and intrusion of the natural teeth were reported in implant and natural tooth connected prosthesis. To reduce this complications, many studies gave focused on the methods of the connection implants and natural teeth, and the rigid connection may be the method for prevention of natural tooth intrusion and adequate distribution of stresses.
