Purpose: The purpose of this study was to place Dentis implants in bone of type 4 bone quality and to evaluate implant’s clinical usefulness by assessing the stability of the implants during follow-up observation. Materials of Methods: In 20 patients who underwent the procedure from March 2007 to June 2008, we examined (1) the stability of the implant was evaluated by measuring the immobility value immediately after implant placement or second surgery by the Periotest− or an Ostell mentor, (2) the distribution of placement sites, and (3) success and failure rates. Results: A total of 47 implants were placed: 2 maxillary anterior teeth, 12 maxillary premolars, 22 maxillary molars, 5 mandibular anterior teeth, 1 mandibular premolar, and 5 mandibular molars. The average diameter and length of the implant fixture were 4.25 mm and 11.53 mm, respectively. Regarding bone graft procedures performed during implant placement, maxillary lift was performed in 27 cases, bone graft into the exposed threads in 8 cases, immediate placement after the extraction of the tooth in 1 case, and no procedures were necessary in 11 cases. The average early immobility value after placement measured by the Periotest- was shown to be 3.4, and the immobility value measured after the second surgery was -3.04. Good bone fusion was observed, and the average healing period allowed after the placement was 5.73 months. One implant (1/47) failed early during the follow-up observation period, yielding a 97.87 % survival rate, and no cases failed after placement of the prosthesis (average follow-up period: 12.19 months). Conclusion: Based on this short clinical observation, Dentis implants were found to exhibit good outcomes in poor bone quality such as type IV.
