Abstract
In dental implant surgery, adequate soft tissue covering is very important for acquiring successful results, especially when the surgery is performed with additional procedures such as bone graft, guided bone regeneration. Also, immediate implant installation after tooth extraction is becoming common procedure. Various surgical approaches have been applied for covering extraction sites. The purpose of this report is to describe applications of palatal rotation flap for covering soft tissue of extraction sites in dental implant surgery which is performed with augmented bone substitutes and barrier membranes. The main advantages of this technique, compared with buccal advancement or rotation flap, are simplicity and predictability, and it consistently preserves keratinized gingival and buccal aspect resultantly. Although keratinized mucosa is not indispensable for the maintenance of peri-implant tissue health if oral hygiene is adequate, its presence is generally advocated. The successful results were obtained clinically. Conclusively, the palatal rotation flap is considered as a useful method that can be applied for the soft tissue coverage in dental implant surgery.
